ACMAO 7th Gala Fundraiser

The 7th Annual Gala Fundraiser for The Armenian Canadian Medical Association of Ontario (ACMAO) was held on September 11th, 2011 at the historic and elegant Eglinton Grand Theatre in Toronto.  Over 200 guests, many honorary and noted members of the community, enjoyed the art deco themed gala event designed to educate patrons regarding the progress of charity work being conducted both at home as well as abroad, and celebrate the fundraising accomplishments of the year past.

Patrons were treated to live classical music (piano and cello duo) and an extensive silent auction display to peruse during cocktail hour.  Following introductory remarks from the evening's master of ceremonies, Ms. Marie Injeyan, ACMAO president Dr. Jack Sakarya took the stage to formally welcome and thank guests.  An update of ongoing projects was presented by Dr. Arsen Keleshian, ACMAO board member, addressing the day-to-day logistics and details with respect to ACMAO's free-healthcare clinics abroad, as well as the MRI-Neurology project.

Following a scrumptious four-course meal, Dr. Berge Minassian updated guests on the status of the MRI-Neurology project, highlighting the bumps in the road that were encountered by ACMAO volunteers and board members over the past year.  While several challenges were successfully met, others still loom.  On behalf of the sick children of Armenia, he asked guests for their input and intellectual contributions over the upcoming months in solidifying the details of this project.  Subsequently, invited keynote speaker Irene Elliott (MHSc, NP-Peds, ANCP) delivered her presentation on Children's Epilepsy and the unique challenges therein.

The majority of the evening was spent on the dance floor with guests enjoying the likes of Sinatra, Buble, and of course some traditional Armenian music - all courtesy of Darryl Palmer, The Singing DJ.

A very special thank you to the 2011 gala committee for all the hard work and tireless efforts throughout the past year.  Photos from the event are courtesy of Ms. Jackie Karounos of Indigo Photography (jkarounos@rogers.com) and available for viewing at:
